Frank describes the Bragg home as once having been a "big house, ungainly and monolithic, with tall Victorian windows and bellying bays and broad brick chimeys" suggest a former greatness about the Bragg family (Page 4). This symbolizes what was once the family's position in the community and proud character.

The home, now run down outdated, makes Randy feel as if his own life is lived in the shadow of his family heritage.
