Initially, Hamilton wanted to get rid of the Articles altogether and start from the beginning. A Nationalist and mercantilist, Hamilton supported a strong Federal government and the government's ability to raise cash..... in other words, taxes. Hamilton was largely responsible for creating the Federal Reserve Bank.

– That power which holds the purse strings absolutely must rule.
Alexander Hamilton, 1780

The Constitution gave the Federal goverment unity, limited states rights, and established unity..... what Hamilton wanted.
