what role does the garden play in Alices adventure in wonderland?

The garden symbolizes Alice's own Garden of Eden and a place of innocence. In Alice's journey to growing up, she learns that the things we want (entrance to the garden) are not always what they seem. By the time she finally gains entrance to the garden, she has grown up, and no longer sees its perfection through the eyes of a child.
