When Rashad is finally able to talk to his parents and explain what happened, he gets two completely different reactions. His mother is concerned for his well being.... the mama bear comes out.... she is protective of her son. His father, however, is angry and refuses to see the reality. He cannot understand how Rashad could be so foolish as to steal from a convenience store, and he doesn't give Rashad the chance to explain. His father is also skeptical of his explanation. "Were your pants sagging," Dad interrogated..," illustrating his father's belief that Rashad's appearance may have made him look suspicious or untrustworthy.
