Why doesn’t Rashad’s father push Rashad to join the police force as much as he does the military ?

Rashad doesn't enjoy ROTC but does it because his dad believes the best thing for a black American boy to do is join the army. His father thinks that joining the army carries a sense of patriotism as well as validation that the police do not have.
