The title of the book implies that the novel is concerned with American culture and values. The title becomes ironic because Rashad , the protagonist, has all the traits of what an American boy should have. He is smart, strong, athletic, good-looking....Unfortunately he will never be seen as American, by the white dominated system, because he is black.
The title of the book means that rashad is balck and is not an americaaaan YEEEEHAAAAaaWWWW. That's at leat my opinion *shrug*
