Chris resents his father which doesn't really boil over until their argument in Act 2. While the business defines Joe, Chris struggles to separate himself from that identity. He feels better than both the business and his father, "The business doesn't inspire me." Chris finds the business loaded with emotional baggage, he wants his life to be different. Chris wants to marry Ann and do anything but the business, "If I have to grub for money all day long at least at evening I want it beautiful."
