short note on dr. Jim bayliss

Jim Bayliss lives next door to the Kellers with his wife Susan. Now in his forties, Jim works as a doctor and has his own pratice. He's tired and worn out, but like others in the play is living the "American Dream," and yearning for his youth rather than the affluent life he now lives.

Jim is a good neighbor. He's helpful and genuinely seems to care about the Kellers. Aware of Joe's guilt, and claiming he's always known, he makes no judgments, maybe that's what makes him such a good neighbor. Jim has his own understanding of "sacrificing" for the American Dream and chooses to ignore the way others have achieved their own.
