what was the relationship between Chris and his father? Only in Act one

In act 1 Chris Keller is an affectionate young man of 32, who clearly adores his father. Chris reveals his intentions to marry Ann to his father and his father is rather luke warm to the idea because Ann has always been "Larry's girl." There isn't too much in act 1 that gets into their relationship. The two seem close enough but like all the characters in this story, there are underlying stresses at play.
