why did the students join the army
why did the students join the army
The boys in Paul's class were fired up with patriotic fervor delivered to them by their teacher Kantorek. Their teacher filled their heads with propaganda that made war look like an adventure full of valor for the motherland. He called the boys the "iron youth" and encouraged them to be men and fight for Germany. Once the boys experience the horror of war, they curse their old teacher for filling their heads with lies.
