What finally does happen that connects directly to the novel's title? What affect does this have on the reader?

THere are two ironies here. After the noise and fury of the noise, paul is killed. He is the last of his group. The irony is that there is only quiet to be had after death. Soon after comes the second irony when the war is declared over and there is truly quiet on the Western Front, countless death has been the price for that. I think the average reader feels a sense of melancholy and senseless loss for Paul and the other boys, on both sides, lost in the war. There is also a sense of relief that the suffering is over.
