An Inspector Calls

An Inspector Calls

1) How should the actor playing the Inspector take charge 'massively'?

2) What does Mrs Birling being 'staggered' (page 32) about Eric's drinking reveal of the family's relationships?

3) How should Gerald 'break off' (page 35) from telling his story?

4) How should the Inspector listen to Gerald?

5) How should Sheila, Mr Birling and Mrs Birling listen and react to Gerald's story?

The revelations have left the family spinning, as each member (and Gerald) have been outed for certain actions or behaviors. It is up to the Inspector to control the room.... to move the plot.

Mrs. Birling is staggered (shocked) by her son's drinking because she has been completely unaware of the extent to which he drinks. Erik's heavy drinking is now exposed, and we can infer that the Birling family is not close..... everyone limiting their attention to themselves.
