Are the animals in animal farm willing to die for their ideals? What makes a person willing to die for a cause?

Initially the animals are willing to die for their ideals. The original revolution was fought in the spirit of Old Major who advocated sacrifice for the good of all animals. Unfortunately this idea gets perverted by Napoleon after the Battle of Cowshed.
