Once Napoleon takes over, he "sells out" the animals both literally and figuratively. He takes the eggs from the chickens and sells them; he takes the milk and gives it to the pigs saying they need it to keep up their intelligence. Eventually he even sells Boxer to the glue factory when Boxer can no longer work.
