what are common goals/failure of socialism communism

Old Major had the goal of creating an animal utopia. It would be a farm where everybody was equal and everybody shared in the bounty from their hard work. Unfortunately, given human (animals are a metaphor) nature, t\equality is impossible. Power and corruption flourish when the few take advantage of the many by manipulating doctrine.
