Animal Farm
What is Orwell trying to persuade us to see
I honestly dont have any
I honestly dont have any
I read this in grade ten and to be honest I really didn't get it until college. Orwell wanted us to see the nature of Communism. He wanted us to understand that there can be no such thing as a utopian people's paradise where everybody works for the betterment of their neighbours. Orwell said that human nature simply won't allow this. The characters are, of course, animals but they personify humans, specifically Joseph Stalin and his regime. Orwell wanted us to know that power will eventually corrupt the best intentioned of leaders. Napoleon initially shares the vision of Old Major but, like all dictators, becomes consumed with power. People or rather animals either fall into line or choose to rebel. In the end the society becomes fragmented and violent; it becomes the opposite of a “worker's paradise.”
