Please tell me what are the main traits of main characters in Anne of Green Gables ?

Matthew Cuthbert, Marilla's brother, is a shy, introverted man, who initially believed he was going to pick up a young male orphan for he and his sister to take in. Matthew was getting older and thought that he and Marilla could provide a good home for an orphaned child, and get some much need help at Green Gables. Anne immediately captivates Matthew with her vivaciousness, and as he is far less stringent than his sister, Anne returns his love. Matthew is a constant source of encouragement.
