On page 68, Equality 7-2521 tells us that there are famous scholars in the meeting. how is it possible for anyone to get famous in a society that is so collectivistic?

Quote: "There were men whose famous names we knew, and others from distant lands whose names we had not heard."

There might have been famous men at one time but the council now is basically impotent. The World Council of Scholars embodies collectivism because of their inability to take any action to progress society. Individual thinking is forbidden so there is really nothing for the council to do. Fear controls this group. It's a paradox. New creations take individual innovation yet the group cannot condone this so innovation, like Equality 7-2521’s light bulb, is rebuked.
