Why is a man with a revolutionary invention that would benefit everyone forced to run for his life?

When Equality 7-2521 arrives and tells the World Council his story, however, the World Council rejects him out of fear and anger. It threatens to kill him and to get rid of his lightbulb. His invention means too much change and the council interprets it to cause inequality rather than conformity. THe light will literally bring light to the minds of people which they do not want.
