Dramatic Irony

Dramatic irony can be found in the early in the play when Creon believes the sentries have had a hand in the burial of Polyneices. The audience knows why the guards have been posted, and we know that Creon posted them specifically to guard the body so no one could give it a burial. None-the-less, unlike Creon, we also know that Antigone is set upon disobeying his orders. The fact that the audience is aware of something the characters don't know is an example of dramatic irony
