What role does the Chorus play in Antigone? Could the chorus be considered a character?

There are many functions of the chorus in Greek tragedies but the main one is to act as a character standing outside of the play. The chorus has multiple roles. They interact with characters, provide context to the audience, and elaborates on moral points. They also interject when characters make mistakes or bad decisions.
