11 1a. Biogaphy Fidel Castro (1926-)

Castro was a member of a student group at University that desired revolution in Cuba. As the spoiled, illegitimate son of a wealthy man, Castro had a little too much time on his hands. He envisioned himself a Marxist revolutionary and participated in armed student rebellions. In reality, his ultimate goal was to achieve international fame.

Castro was power hungry and unprincipled, but he was also able to manipulate the many people who joined with him to overthrow a very much despised dictator. Most of the people who joined him believed that ridding themselves of a dictator would bring about democracy and prosperity. They didn't realize they were trading one dictator for another.
