Buddy and Charley love each other. Buddy clearly appreciates Charley's tough love and sacrifice when they were young. The way he nostalgically describes a tough childhood is touching. Buddy sends Charley money but I think there is some guilt on Buddy's part. He knows the sacrifice his family made for him to be the golden boy. Still Charley sees his sacrifice in Buddy's success and he loves him for it.
