252 (1) What is your reaction to Charley when he comes after Buddy at the end of the story?

I really think it is both touching and a little sad. Charley wants Buddy to maintain this image of success unfettered by his past. Really the past and Charley helped make Buddy into the man he has become. It's sad that Charley feels his place is lower than Buddy.
