The stress under which they lived while they were hidden was very difficult for all of the people in the Secret Annexe. In all, they reacted differently, but I believe they would have to deal with the situation differently. Anne wrote in her diary and all of her feelings were expressed there; Mrs. Van Daam wanted the entire group to focus on her and her needs - she was both selfish and self-centered. It must have been horrible and certainly would have been a time for the spirit to be killed for each member of the group.
