bbb. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

bbb. Aslan, can you please write me something for this next question, or give me an outline.

question:

At the end, Atticus tells Scout that most people are nice "when you finally see them." Please write a short essay in which you defend or refute that idea. Use supportive evidence from the story and from your own experience.

Okay, I'll just take a minute to think.

Atticus is probably one of the more enlightened characters in modern fiction. One of his many "truisms" is the idea that we seldom see people for what they are but rather for what we want to see them as. Indeed, Atticus stated to his kids that you can never really know someone, "Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.'" This is one of the major themes of the novel. People saw Tom Ribinson and Boo Radely the way they wanted to see them. By the end of the novel, Scout realizes the kind person, in Radley's case, behind the childish illusions.
