Overflowing water which cause damage. I think of a flood or a washing machine flooding a basement. Too much wealth, when it overflows, causes social damage.
Then there is knife imagery and the weaker it gets when sharpened too much. The metaphor is with fame being obsessed about becoming thrift and easily breakable.
There is the credit imagery. I can't help but seeing a Master Card, but still borrowing on even an idea isn't good.
