Connie feels trapped between two worlds or two sides. There was Connie's home life with her mother and sister, predictable, dreary and mundane. There was also the wilder side outside of her house which offered excitement and freedom but also danger. The two men in the car represented the freedom of the unknown but also the danger of it.
