What are the similarities between “The Scratch” by Raymond Carver and "The Minister's Black Veil" by Nathaniel Hawthorne?

Hi, Carvers poem has to do with masculinity and loss of it. I really dont see the connection between these two. Really I tried and they are such strange works to compare. Was this an actual question from a teacher?
