There are various instances of irony;
1) The belief that Mr Mallard is dead........ but he isn't.
2) Mr Mallard lives and Mrs Mallard is the one who dies....
3) Everyone believes Mrs Mallard locks herself away in order to grieve when in fact she's contemplating more of a celebration.
4) The doctors claim that Mrs Mallard dies of happiness, when it in fact is the complete opposite.
