I assume that you are referring to Chapter 3. David makes the off handed comment that he wishes he had another hand. He had got a large splinter in it and was bleeding. His mother admonishes him for it and David says that he could have bandaged himself if he had "another hand". Everybody hears this and they all drop to their knees and pray for his salvation. David's father basically goes ballistic on David.
