3. What can we learn about ourselves from John Hughes when in his film The Breakfast Club, the students in detention band together against the school principle but not against the school janitor?

John Huges used adults as stock characters to get into the psyche of his teenagers. The teacher Richard Vernon (Paul Gleason) is rude and clueless about the kids he teaches. This allows for a unity among the teens, despite their social differences. The janitor, however, is different. He shares the space of being considered "lower" on the social scale in the adult world. The teens can relate to this so the there is more of a social interaction with him.
