Character virtues are "moral," by nature. They include courage, justice, etc., and they name the individual's standing as a "good" or "bad" person in the context of the golden mean. The intellectual virtues include wisdom, which directly relates to man's rational capacities. Wisdom is the highest virtue, for Aristotle, because he understands the distinctive quality of the human being in his rationality.
