Jewel is immensely sensitive to his mother and family. He puts the wishes of his family before his own and focuses on others.
Jewel is a sensitive character, who will always put others, especially his mother, before himself. He deeply cares for his mother, more than anyone else. Jewel also strongly cares for his horse, even though violence occurs when he is “enclosed by a glittering maze of hooves as by an illusion of wings”.
