What repeated details can you notice about Jewel in ch 5?

We particularly notice Jewel's eyes. They are described twice in this chapter-

'Jewel's eyes look like pale wood'

and

'his eyes like pale wooden eyes'.

Jewel's differences from the rest of the family are also made clear. He is taller than anyone else in the family, and got more attention from their mother - positive and negative. We have learnt that Anse's views are generally lacking in perception and insight, so when he say that Jewel -

'got no affection nor gentleness for her. You never had.'

We know that Jewel has more feeling than anyone for Addie.
