This is a fantastic scene. It completely defines the relationship between Rosalind and Cecelia. I like to picture the two of them living in today's world. How many women would sit back and accept (Rosalind) what a close friend has to say about the fact that her father has been banished (Cecelia). How different the world was.
Even more interesting was Cecelis's promise that Rosalind can have the throne after her own father's death? Somehow I don't think it is Duke Frederick's intent that his daughter give the throne back.
The latter part of the scene introduces Orlando who will go onto to become Rosalind's love interest. He isn't welcomed by the Duke because his father was an enemy. And thus, we have the star crossed lovers of our play!
