In Act 2 sc. 3 Adam( the family's elderly servant) informs Orlando that Oliver plans to burn his house down. Oliver is angry about Orlando's increasing popularity in court. Orlando doesn't know where to go. Oliver has all the money so Orlando thinks he will have to become a thief to eat which isn't appealing. Here Adam displays the traditional servant role that you are referring to. Adam has scrounged his meagre income (500 crowns) and he offers his life savings to Orlando. He says that they can live on it awhile if they ran away together.

Orlando tells us that Adam is an old-school servant; he serves out of duty and love rather than employment.
