How does Atonement (By Ian McEwan) fit into the crime genre?

What elements of crime such as guilt, victims etc feature in Atonement. Please could you give some examples. Thank you!

In essence, the entire novel revolves around Briony's desire to atone for falsely accusing and seeing an innocent man condemned for the crime of rape.

Robbie is falsely accused of rape. He is the victim, as is Cecelia, who subsequently loses the man she loves.
