how and why does Dai use humor in this novel?

the narrator and Luo appreciate the authenticity of the songs even though the lyrics are lewd and simplistic. This contrasts significantly with Four-Eyes, who sees the songs as low culture, useful only when he can appropriate them to his purposes. This is kind of funny.
