Having the baby is not like stealing a baby or a stereo. A Baby demands attention and Tsotsi is in shock. Still Tsotsi takes the baby from the stolen BMW. He can sacrifice a car but he will not sacrifice a baby. He takes the baby and projects all his vulnerability and pathos onto it. Tsotsi too was an orphan once and perhaps Tsotsi sees himself in the baby. The baby is a turning point but doesn't make Tsotsi an entirely dynamic character. Tsotsi simply stops doing bad things for a while. He is too busy caring for the baby. In the end the baby reawakens a tenderness in Tsotsi that lays dormant in him, a sensitivity that he has stifled under his hard exterior.
