Was Sethe justified in killing Beloved?

Sethe believed herself to be justified in killing Beloved, as she didn't want her to be subjected to the trauma of slavery. She saw her children as the best part of who she was and felt it her duty to protect Sethe from the cruel, “dirtiness” of slavery.
