What are the images of birth that came out in the work

The major image that symbolizes birth in Beloved is the river imagery. Many of the characters, at one time or another, seek out the river to escape the horror/madness/depression that is their lives. Water, in general, often represents "the womb" in literature; hence, the symbolic representation of birth or rebirth.
