What does Beloved's monologue describe? What is the hot thing? how does this description connect to Sethe? ( part2: chp 2-5)

In Beloveds vivid monologue she is desperate not to lose Sethe. The imagery is varied: there are clouds, water, then she is standing in the rain, there is night and day, the image of Sethe's face through the water, repeated reference to "a hot thing." Sometimes she is standing, sometimes she is curled up like a fetus. She want her face to join with Sethe's. Finally, Beloved is resurrected, emerging from the water and finding the house and the face she has wanted to join. My take is that the "hot thing" seems to represent something abstract, some force that stands between her and her daughter.
