There are two songs in the poem (ll. 882-914 and 1070-1158). What is their purpose, here? How would you relate the stories told in the songs to the poem as a whole?

The songs are full of heroism and praising the victory of warriors like Beowulf. I'm not a Viking and I have not fought any monsters lately so there is not much for me to connect with. Still, I can appreciate the mythic identity that the Vikings get out of these songs and stories.
