Was Grendel a kind of devil !

Grendel is indeed a vicious monster, but there are clues that he is more than that, perhaps some kind of devil. What evidence can you find in the extract to support such a claim? Write down lines from the poem and also try to explain in your own words.

Both Grendel and his mother are described as descendants of Cain, who commited the first murder and was exiled to a faraway place. This comparision also alludes to the devil and original sin.
