Antonio is a very serious and contemplative child. He is intense about life and what it means. He is often torn between the ideas of his parents, other villagers and friends. He puts conflicts into religious and quasi-religious paradigms. Ultima finally frees him from his struggle to fit life and ideas into pre-set compartments. He begins to make sense of conflicts through his own intuition and wisdom drawn from a number of sources and experiences.
