What is your reaction to the car thief going blind?

He
got out and did not bother to lock the car, he would be back
in a minute, and walked off. He had gone no more than
thirty paces when he went blind

The car thief didn't have to come into physical contact with the first man in order to be stricken by the contagion. All he had to do was get into the car the blind man had left behind.
