There are quite a few things that disgust John Savage about the civilized world.
-No emotions of grief. John is chastised for crying over the death of his mother. Life is utterly expendable.
-Promiscuity without emotional attachment. John really can't handle this. After he participates in an orgy, he kills himself.
-Genetically modified social hierarchy. John detests the discrimination that goes on. His love of Shakespeare, particularly Othello, lets him see the lowly dark skinned Epsilons as attractive.
