What role do drugs have in this "utopian" society? And what role do eugenics and dysgenics have in this society?

Brave New World is described as a "utopian" society but the irony becomes evident in the first chapter. This vacuous and superficial culture places importance on disposable resources and disposable relationships. Drugs, like Soma, offer an escape from any emotional struggle that developed people into functioning human beings. People are manufactured in a lab with a specific genetic profile that is meant to fill sections of a consumer culture. Good genes and bad genes are separated into specific groups of people who are destined for specific purposes. The result is a dystopian future where intellect and free will are mandated by the state.
