Brave New World
Why do you think Huxley adds the comment about the death of the Alpha-Plus administrator in Mwanza-Mwanza? How do you think he intended the reader to respond to this information?

Lenina is distraught over her sexual frustrations around John Savage. At work, she is so upset that she misses adding an immunization against sleeping sickness to a bottle. Huxley adds "Twenty-two years, eight months, and four days from that moment, a promising young Alpha-Minus administrator at Mwanza-Mwanza was to die of trypanosomiasis—the first case for over half a century."Trypanosomiasis is the scientific name for "sleeping sickness". I think Huxley intended the reader to reflect on the idea that science is only as exact as humans are: humans are fallible hence science is fallible. All the importance placed on science in the human world is flawed because human beings are flawed creatures.
